Remembering My Grandfather's Garment District Of- The Lower East Side, NYC

We had a very busy & lovely weekend with our grandchildren, my motto being- All of the fun & none of the work. Going to the movies to see, Guomeo & Jullet was at the top of our list, & we gave it three, definite thumbs up! So, no matter what anyone of the reviewers might say, this Nana & her two grand kids give it high marks & if you have a chance to see it, believe us when we say, you'll love it!

Over the weekend we all cooked together, & enjoyed the blessings & simple pleasures of learning from one another, & living in the precious moments that weave together these chaptered memories.

This brought me to, today of course, & with no deadlines of having to be here, there or anywhere, it was the perfect afternoon, to listen to my muse-

My Grandfather's Garment District, Honoring A Cloth

To my sons and grandchildren-

I stitch

and weave

time

elements,

a gift in

moments

given

these thoughts

you

in a distant place

weaving

healing

torn fibers

sixty six degrees

amazing travels

getting there

I patch my jeans, how extreme

the past

so just

the past

handwrought

stitches,

strongly reinforced

together

these moments

weaving

a

whole

So concludes today's inclussion into today's addition of Poetry A Muse In Motion, it is still Valentines Day, & my husband & I have our special plans for dinner this evening.

For those who have yet to find their special someone, or for those who may be in the healing mode from what may have caused a heart to ache- We want you to know that as challenging as this time may be, you will heal, for we know this from having been there our very selves, & having shared these experiences in our human condition.

Wishing * All-- Love & Peace, in regards to yourselves, intentions & interactions with others. There is, as we have learned a true season & purpose, for everything under heaven, no matter where the garden path is. It is all a true certanity as we make our way.

Vincent Van Gogh & Saint Valentine's Day

The above quote has been on our fridge for many years now, & was given to me by my dear friend *S who has been living in Israel with her family for many years. *S has forever read my poems, & other bits & pieces of what I have composed, & always the supportive & encouraging friend. For *S, & all the people in Israel, & the entire Middle East, the call & prayers for peace we know are not simply a slogan, but an active exercise in living one day at a time, with prayers for peace always in the forefront.

Valentine's Day is fast approaching. I tend to have good memories of this day. From childhood times of exchanging colorful two sided cards with classmates, to making Valentines with my own children & now my grandchildren too. Today is certainly the day, as I expect them early on this afternoon. We have the paper, markers, crayons & glue sticks on hand, & I even have a bit of glitter-glue stashed away for projects such as these.

Paper projects, always have been the best & still are today for many a child. Sure we have computers, videos, & all sorts of "e" generated games, but nothing in my estimation will totally take the place of an actual hands on experience of creating something totally unique in a handmade way.

I have a reproduced Valentine of sorts with a statement attributed to, Vincent Van Gogh & it says, "The way to know life is to love many things." As troubled & disturbed Van Gogh, may have been, he certainly was a genius of artistic talent. With what he shared & the body of work he left behind, to this day his contribution is truly immeasurable, though continuing to be sold with a million dollar plus, price tag.

Yes so many of us love many things. The beauty of the snow on a crisp winter's day sparking the imagination, creating images & sentiments out of paper to share with those who are special with the special people in our lives, & even clicking along the blogger sphere, here. Expressing an idea, a sentiment or two, from this corner of the world & beyond...

The poetic, artistic types, we know who they are- They are you, I, everyone who has ever gazed upon a sunrise, lilies in a pond, majestic mountains, desert ranges vast... the topics are endless.... So for one day, I will enjoy this time, of what is a favorite to me, & return once again to that very innocent time when hand cut & pasted Valentines & the sentiments they still bring are near perfect.

Thank you Vincent Van Gogh, across centuries time.

Egypt The Whole World Is Watching With Heartfelt Congratulations

One of the oldest & most advanced civilizations in the world Egypt, who has given the world so very much-

As was said in the 1960's, when another generation was working so very hard for inner change in this country across the globe- May the people of Egypt, achieve what it is they want & need peacefully, so their citizens too, may be lifted to attain their hopes & dreams for a good, fair & just quality of life, for all their citizens in the 21st century, & beyond.

Post Script of Next Day Friday 2/11/11 @ 12:00 noon; as this day continued, & I was doing my much needed cycling & treadmill workout, it was reported on the news that Egypt's president, has left the country. Live scenes out of Cairo showed that the people were ecstatic! What a gigantic step for the people of Egypt, our hopes & prayers are for them to have what is they truly want in their country. Equality, opportunity, freedom, & peace, for all citizens of Egypt, our hearts, minds & prayers are with them as they continue to go forth....

Today I read an essay, a short story of sorts by a friend who had recently learned of the passing of a dear friend of her's. Also this afternoon an email came in from my cousin who very kindly has been sharing episodes from time to time with family & friends, in regards to how her brother in law has been doing with his battle of a serious disease. At times it has been going estacially well, & at others, such as now, very painful & laden with challenges.

There is no escape for us mere mortals, our human condition & what it is we are made of. The very best we can do, is to be there for one another, even in small ways. For it is our love & concern for one another that can raise our spirits, & gives us hope, to continue, to continue, as we wish one another, blessings of strength, healing & continued peace. *Amen*

The plant above is a blueberry bush, but by springtime, we're not quite sure what it will be due to this other worldly terrain...
